Junkie Saved
63
Orange bottles with pretty white lids tossed
Bloodshot eyes of concern
Turned to flowered forget- me- not’s
Pickled in a habituated body
Fanatical mind hunting the Candy Man
Screaming on the inside, “Help me somebody!”
Sinking deeper in the opiate quicksand
Finding a synthetic peace
With slurred thoughts and tattered speech
Paradise always chased
Just seems a moment away
Until the pain comes rushing in and eradicates
Memories mused
Emotions confused
Silence, an enemy to the used and abused
The thought enters in…
Where I am at and where I have been?
What is my destiny?
Did I squander it away?
Do I have the pieces still within me to make it someday?
On the edge of a sleepless night
Tremors forming, nerves at their height
Sunday school songs dance the lead
To the erratic sound of my weakened heartbeat
Spinning in visions of what it could be
To hear The Lord Jesus still loves me
I am not a child
I am no longer age six
Could a Savior be real?
Would he bring me my fix?
Daunt and dismayed
Crumpled to the floor like wadded paper
Breathless words pleading
“Could there be a Savior?”
Again
“Could there be a Savior?”
Rushing words heard at heavens door
The river of healing ready to pour
The sound of His voice
Calling my name
It wasn’t Sunday
And I wasn’t insane
Eyes of shame reach to the Master
Though my limbs too drug inflamed
To give praise with alabaster
He receives my heart all the same
His love stitching the wounds
His redemption sealing my fate
His life force pumping through my veins
Healing balm covering my deep seeded scar
He pointed to the book of life, in it, written my name
He said, “This is who you are!
An embrace of the quiet, I shouted with my mind
“I want this victory you speak of all the time!”
Eyes blazing with anointed glory
Mercy streaming from his gaze
He said, “I will be with you my child
Giving you wisdom through the maze.
My love for you could never be measured
For it is too great.
Your mission can begin now, other lives are at stake
Be my hand, be my heart, sing the Jesus song
For don’t you know
I sent you there, long ago
For this day to come along."

that's unfortunate, calico, but I'm glad you stayed clean. My wife's brother has been a meth addict for years
