Overcoming Procrastination Tips
74Tackle Procrasination Head on
Procrastination... Prelude to Feeling of Failure
Procrastination is an unwelcome word being it is the prelude to failure and self-condemnation. This article will help you with ways to face procrastination head on and escape it's clutches forever!
Have you ever had a great idea and within an hour the motivation to execute the plan has diminished to a pipe dream? It gets tossed into the basket labeled,”Maybe Someday." Don’t allow intimidation of the endeavor, to form a lack of confidence. Here are some great tools, to help you stay focused and achieve the exploits, you never thought you could.
Educate yourself
The First Step to Conquering Procrastination
The first step to conquering procrastination, is to understand the reasons why we as human beings, put things off for another day. As we explore the “Why’s” we can formulate a plan on what to do about it.
The number one reason we avoid a project is, we consciously or unconsciously feel we need more information, to do the job right. As we educate ourselves in the area of which we are challenged, the more at ease the duty will appear to us. The rise in fortitude, will create new motivation.

Finding the Information you Need
Let me give you an example. Let’s say would like to build a tree house for your 10 year old. The lumber sits outside rotting, because every time you think of the daunted burden, it makes you cringe. What do you know about creating a bush haven? This fear comes from a lack of knowledge so here is what you can do about it. The first thing you do, is put into the Google search engine, “How to build a tree house”. When I did this, the first pick was www.thetreehouseguide.com. It is a site that offers a step by step guide, for those who want to build an affordable tree house, with safety in mind.

Get Help on Organizing Your Life
Let’s say you hate to organize but Grandma Jones is moving in next week. You must clear the back bedroom to create an area for knitting tools. My advice, seek out a website that will tell you step by step how to make more space in your home such as www.realsimple.com and www.lifeorganizers.com. Whether it be books, instructional DVD’s, YouTube videos or websites, with the technology today you have many avenues of information to utilize. The more instruction you soak up the better! As your mind comes to understand, the steps needed to complete the undertaking, you will have jumped the first hurdle.
Break the Project Up Into Smaller Tasks
Make Deadlines and Keep Them
Have you ever thought, “I have plenty of time to tackle that assignment!” But then found yourself, in a quandary, when the boss came around two weeks later and it wasn’t completed? The second most common excuse resulting in procrastination, is thinking you have plenty of time to do something and you continue to put it off for tomorrow. Most likely, you need the full amount of time given to do a project well.
If you have extra time, after the assignment is complete, then it may be safe to call yourself a genius but not before. Telling yourself you have ions of ideas, with no need to rush, will possibly end in failure altogether. Break a project down to smaller tasks and give yourself a deadline for each portion. This will give you a strong handle on what is already accomplished and what needs to be added, to make it a kick butt job!
When You Hate the Task!
Third excuse used, to become friends with the thief of time is, “I hate doing that!” If you do not like the responsibility, you will find some way to get out of it. I mean who likes to pick up dog doo doo, right? How do you solve the, “I hate this job” blues? Come to terms right away, with the fact that if you don’t like this particular chore now, you never will! You will most likely avoid it as the plague. Next, try to delegate the task to someone else. You never know brother Jon might like to pick up dog poop. Okay, Okay! The likelihood of that is slim but you get the gist. Last, if you can’t get a boob to do your dirty work, create a reward system for yourself. You might want to skip a Mountain Bar after shoveling Bowser’s presents, but I am positive you can think of something to make it worth it.

Make Time for Accomplishing Goals
The last excuse the people give to avoid things they know they need to accomplish is, “I would love to get to that, but I have more pressing things to do.” Do you have a remodeling job that started four years ago, and other pressing responsibilities got in the way? You are no closer to having a suave contemporary bowl sink, than you were before they went out of style? Or maybe you have promised your family, an outdoor picnic and yet three summers have gone by because it was more important to go golfing with the guys? Whatever goal it is you are trying to achieve, you must classify the reasons why you dreamed it in the first place. You must stay true to those aspirations to see a completed work. Take the time to evaluate how important the dream is so you will be inspired to bring it into reality.
Stay Focused
Eliminate the Unimportant
If you no longer desire to have a bathroom made of Italian tile then scratch it off the list all together. Have your bathroom put back the way it was and start on a new dream. You deserve to have the feeling of accomplishment and the assurance needed, for the next goal that may arise. When putting your mind to a project and pressing forward, the unforeseen can approach on the scene. It could be that events took place that were out of your control. The vision of art takes the form of a nightmare. If this happens, apply the earlier information in this article. To break things down into smaller steps will make things simpler, as you continue to work on your masterpiece. You will see that with each project completed, the more faith in yourself you will have, to tackle other tasks you wouldn’t normally consider.

This is all great information - I love the photo of the paperwork too - looks familiar but I don't feel as bad about mine.
I like this hub as it is filled with such good information. Thanks for the links and I love the photo with all the paperwork! Sometimes I wish there were two of me to handle it all. But...I have a strong feeling I'd just have twice the amount of work to get caught up on :_) Voted up!

I needed to see this hub since I have been procrastinating a bunch. Okay - I'll stop.
Well, it is as if you knew that I am suffering from a severe bout of PROCRASTINATION! I cannot believe the tasks I have been dodging all these months and right now I sit here commenting on your hub because I do not want to get into the task at hand. I really want to get it over but I am overwhelmed by the amount of work I have to put in and at the back of my mind I keep thinking I might not make it. That thought slows me down to a near stop. Thanks for writing. I have to go and do my work, at least I still have 12 hours in which I could probably make a difference before I go to bed! Yes, I go to bed at 4 because of Procrastination...LOL
Okaaay...rewards I like...that may get the job I don't like done...now, what will be a big enough reward?

Face the fear, often the fact that a person has insufficient knowledge to master the task causes fear. The only way to overcome fear is face it and get the job done.. Procrastination often plagues perfectionists for the very same reasons. Great hub! Have a blessed day! Peace and Joy!
